Several products from BINQ’s Archetto series were employed in the renovation of a 100-year-old cottage in the Melbourne suburb of Ivanhoe to achieve the design strategy.
The owners of Engawa House sought to update their kitchen, laundry and bathroom as well as improve the living spaces in their home.
‘Engawa’ is derived from two Japanese words – ‘en’ meaning edge, and ‘gawa’ meaning side. A distinctive feature in traditional Japanese architecture, engawa represents a transitional space that runs around the home, much like a verandah, and seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces.
This design strategy is successfully employed throughout the home using BINQ lift and slide doors, IV68 hinged doors, and tilt and turn windows from the Archetto series.
