Premium Dulux products were used on the exterior façade and external steel surfaces at Waters Edge, a landmark development offering a selection of riverfront apartments in Brisbane’s West End.
Created by the Pradella Group, the precinct forms part of a 5.3-hectare masterplanned community with diverse food, retail, leisure and entertainment offers.
Comprising two 11-level towers, Reach and Drift, Waters Edge’s luxurious apartments provide uninterrupted river views and five-star, resort-style living just 3km from the Brisbane CBD. The development has been recognised at the Queensland Housing Industry Awards multiple times since its construction in 2011. In 2021, Amalgamated Property Maintenance was contracted to repaint and refresh the property’s facades to ensure the building’s exterior continues to look as good as the day it was built.
The Challenge
This prestigious development required innovative solutions that would minimise disruption to residents and deliver long-lasting results.
Maintenance and longevity
Waters Edge’s absolute riverfront position means that the development is constantly exposed to harsh weather conditions, contamination and pollution. The Brisbane River is a tidal estuary, which means its water is salty throughout much of the metropolitan area. These tough environmental considerations informed the selection of products used for the remediation works.
Aesthetic appeal
Waters Edge’s reputation as a luxurious residential precinct meant that the paints and coatings used must provide high-performance protection while meeting the aesthetic expectations of a high-end development.
The Solution
A tailored project specification was provided to extend the warranty period of the coatings, including a range of Dulux premium products that would deliver exterior protection.
Consultation and collaboration
Dulux and our dedicated property maintenance team worked closely with Amalgamated Property Maintenance to create a tailored specification for the project. Our approach included on-site inspections to thoroughly assess the property and determine which products would provide a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution.
Exterior weather protection
A range of Dulux Protective Coatings was applied to external steel elements to provide aesthetically pleasing high-performance protection. Weathermax HBR was used for its excellent colour and ability to withstand extreme UV exposure, while Durebild STE was applied as an intermediate coat due to its excellent corrosion barrier and effectiveness on a wide range of well-adhered aged coatings.
Lasting performance
Dulux Acratex AcraShield Advance was applied to the exterior rendered facade due to its high build membrane properties and system lock that provide maximum resistance to extreme conditions. It’s formulated to create a barrier against dirt, improve surface washability, and provide protection from reo-bar corrosion of steel-reinforced concrete.
