The Ansul Sapphire Fire Suppression System is a significant advancement in fire protection technology, as it utilises a new sustainable chemical agent that fights fires without causing any damage to surrounding objects and structures.
The system is therefore suitable for hospitals, museums, libraries, telecommunication centres and other facilities seeking to protect critical assets that could be damaged by ordinary fire suppression systems.
It uses 3M Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid which looks exactly like water but doesn't cause the same damage. The system works by detecting fire at invisible levels, identifying particles of combustion before they turn into flames and chemically interfering with the fire combustion process.
"The Sapphire Fire Suppression System not only eliminates the issue of massive water damage but it also greatly reduces actual fire damage by suppressing a fire in the pre-combustion stage," says Dave Pelton, director of global marketing and communications at Tyco Fire Suppression and Building Products.
The system can also be used in conjunction with existing building fire alarm and suppression systems.
