Construction has commenced by Brookfield Multiplex on the 667 new apartments at the Prima Pearl development in Southbank, Melbourne.
The building will be an oval shaped residential tower with 72 levels including a ground level devoted to commercial activity.
This will include 811 square metres of office space, an indoor pool, spa, sauna, fully equipped gym and cinema designed by Bates Smart architects and a virtual golf driving range as well as a deck and barbeque area.
According to the Prima Pearl website, the precast concrete panel walls have been erected and the reinforcement for the ground slabs is in place with concrete 70 per cent poured.
The project is a joint development between Schiavello and PDG and will cost $292 million.
Graham Milford-Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Brookfield Multiplex said:
"The complexity of this project will be in building the oval shape. The design reduces the wind pressures around the building which is important for a tower of such height," he said.
He went on to add:
"The Prima Pearl appointment reflects our track record in successfully delivering residential projects and will result in a range of new, luxury apartments for the Melbourne market over the next three years."
