The Hamilton Island resort Qualia was recently named Best Resort in the World award at the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.
46,476 people nominated more than 1300 resorts based on a criteria which included location and design and Qualia received 100 per cent in all areas.
The main resort was designed by Chris Beckingham with the adjoining yacht club and villas designed separately by Walter Barda.
The yacht club and villas were constructed by Parkview to a budget of $80 million in 2009.
The design incorporates a copper roof over cantilevered terraces while the villas incorporate natural timbers and stone.

Sandy Oatley, Chairman of Hamilton Island Enterprises said recognition "by such sophisticated and well-travelled readers is truly gratifying".
"When we bought Hamilton Island nearly 10 years ago and developed the vision for qualia, it was to create a luxury oasis that maximised the sheer beauty of the idyllic location with a standard of service that was uniquely Australian, yet that would meet and exceed the expectations of the most discerning travellers from around the world. This award is testament that we are doing our job."
