Produced by Roca—a multinational bathroom product producer, the
W+W is a wash basin and toilet combined in one single unit.
The L-shape unit features an exclusive drainage system that filters
water in a treatment tank for use at the wash basin, before reusing it in the adjacent
toilet for flushing.
The system combines the influences of Roca’s design manager,
Josep Congost’s background in engineering and sustainability with the touch of
the company's renowned designer aesthetic.
When asked in an interview with Architecture
and Design where he saw the future of bathroom innovation heading, Congost said that the W+W
certainly came to mind.
“Delicate lines and
innovative technology finally come together in the cause of sustainable
progress. The new W+W is the sum of its indispensable parts for saving water
and space. Its refill system filters the basin's water for reuse in the flush
cistern. And because its exclusive L-shaped design forms a
previously-unthinkable single body, it provides great freedom of movement. A
matchless fusion of sophistication and love for the planet,” he said.
The combination unit has won a plethora of awards including The
Design Award in 2009, a Wallpaper Design Awards 2010, a Design+ award and a FX
sustainable design award.
