Some of the world’s leading architecture firms are competing for the chance to design a landmark high-rise tower in central Auckland, New Zealand.
Five finalists have been announced: Zaha Hadid Architects, Woods Bagot, Warren and Mahoney, Cox Architecture and Elenberg Fraser.
Developer ICD Property asked firms to design an “iconic” tower for Auckland consisting of a hotel and apartment building, to be developed at 65 Federal Street, near the Sky Tower. The developer asked the teams to design two versions of their proposed building; one following the current city Unitary Plan rules and the other designed according to more open planning parameters.
The finalists’ designs are below:
Zaha Hadid Architects
Warren and Mahoney
Cox Architecture
Woods Bagot
Elenberg Fraser
The winner of the competition will be announced in October 2018.
