A second commercial tower has been approved for the $2 billion Melbourne Quarter urban renewal project at Batman's Hill and, like the first tower, will be targeting 6 Star Green Star and 5 star NABERS ratings.

Located at 693 Collins Street, Melbourne Quarter Tower will be the precinct’s largest office tower with 28 levels, about 55,000sqm of office space and an additional 2,500sqm of retail space.

Lendlease has already begun construction on the precinct’s first building, One Melbourne Quarter which was designed by Denton Corker Marshall and is also targeting the above Green Building Council Australia and National Built Environment Rating System targets.

Lendlease’s Managing Director for Urban Regeneration, Mark Menhinnitt reckons the recent approval highlights the quality of the offer at Melbourne Quarter. He says that the development aims to set leading standards in environmentally sensitive and sustainable development, and aspires to be Melbourne’s greenest city precinct.

Representing a popular trend in global workplace design, the project includes the skypark, which will offer workers the ability to recharge or work outside the office, enhancing their health and wellbeing. Additionally, a new public square on Collins Street at the heart of the precinct and surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants will blur the lines between workplaces and retail spaces to create green zones that maximise business efficiency.

Menhinnitt adds that the precinct boasts a strong environmental focus, with more than half of the site dedicated to public open space and a 99 per cent walkability rating to facilitate greener, healthier workplaces.

Melbourne Quarter Tower is one of seven commercial and residential buildings planned for the neighbourhood. On completion, Melbourne Quarter will offer approximately 130,000sqm of agile and flexible office space for more than 12,000 employees.
