Monash University have appointed architecture firm McBride Charles Ryan to design a new law, business and economics complex for its Caulfield campus.
A competition was held by the uni and around 40 submissions were shortlisted which was then cut down to five firms. The concept designs were submitted earlier this year as part of a fundraising campaign necessary to provide the funding for the proposed new building.
The firm will work on the design with Monash University to further develop the concept.
The design so far features details of diamond diagrid patterned concrete wall punctuated by glazed sections that bring natural light into the interiors to provide views.
The building will be a central location for social sciences teaching, learning, research and public programs and will be located on Princes Highway.
It is anticipated to bring more than 6000 students and over 700 staff to Caulfield.
Construction of the complex is due to commence in 2015 upon completion of a major fundraising campaign in 2013.
