Peddle Thorp are the designers behind a new 50 level commercial office tower building in Queen Street Melbourne.

The building will feature a high performance double glazed curtain wall facade with an extruded metal diagonal grid frame which has randomly placed translucent triangular glazed panels within this grid.

The randomly placed white seraphic translucent glazed panels are framed by black metal flush framing as well as the diagonal grid frame.

This articulated facade element occurs on the north, west and east elevations of the tower.

The building will have ground level café areas and will have a range of sustainable initiatives included in the design with the architects aiming to select materials to address the following:

  • Solar control to prevent glare and excessive heat loads
  • Thermal control to the energy efficient of the building
  • Reflectivity to satisfy authority requirements
  • Aesthetics to satisfy the design intent of the complex.

Peddle Thorp Design Director Peter Brook said:

“The new building will incorporate facilities that can serve the users over the next half century.

“It will be designed to achieve an energy efficient design solution and be constructed from readily available materials and proven technology.

“The building will be flexible, so it can be capable of change during its lifecycle to meet the market places changing image and the expectations of its users.”
