Australia's peak body for architecture, the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) is seeking a new CEO to lead the organisation.
Representing more than 12,000 members, the AIA has, since its incorporation in 1930, evolved as a dynamic organisation playing a major role in shaping Australia’s built environment by promoting quality, responsible and sustainable design. The industry body also offers a wide range of programs to members, while fostering strong relationships with government, industry and educational organisations.
The position offers a rare opportunity to lead the continuous improvement and growth of the Institute, including oversight of the Institute’s brands and subsidiary entities. Reporting to the National President and responsible to the National Council, the new CEO will also oversee and support State Councils, working within the framework of the Institute’s Constitution, Purpose and Values.
The position heads up a passionate national team of 80+ employees, working out of all states and territories, who manage state and national initiatives aimed at representing the architectural profession for a broad and diverse member audience. With its reputation for advocacy, AIA seeks a person possessing strategic and entrepreneurial leadership skills as well as a strong operational drive and knowhow to focus the organisation on initiatives that represent commercially sustainable success for the Institute’s people, member base and professional affiliations.
The AIA seeks a person with leadership strengths and an entrepreneurial mind-set to drive a sustainable business operation. The candidate should have core strengths in strategic marketing and brand development as well as financial acumen necessary to run a corporation and ensure business performance and outcomes. Public speaking skills will be an advantage, especially in advocating for causes and initiatives with government agencies, industry and/or shareholders. The person should be a good communicator with the ability to build strong relationships and also have experience in leading positive change within an organisation.
This role is a full time opportunity and applicants will be considered from across Australia, with the appointed person to be based out of the most appropriate capital city branch location.
While it’s not a requirement for the incoming CEO to hold professional standing in architecture or design, a passion for and/or interest in the industry and prior experience leading a membership-based or not-for-profit organisation will be highly regarded.
More information about the position can be accessed on the AIA website.
