For over two decades, architect Carol Marra has been a leading voice in the conversation around designing for sustainability and climate resilience — not just in Australia but also in Asia, Scandinavia and South America. She is set to share her experience at two upcoming forums.

Her designs, for single and multi-residential projects, through to entire precincts and masterplans, continue to push the envelope for what’s possible when it comes to sustainable design. As the climate crisis escalates, Marra’s expertise, ongoing research and commitment to regenerative and responsive design, all position her as a true innovator.

Local and global design communities have long lauded Marra’s commitment to reducing environmental impact and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In her role as Co-Director of Sydney’s Marra+Yeh Architects, she is a sought-after architect and policy/planning advisor. Carol will be speaking at the following events in September.

The Climate Forum — Friday 6 September (2pm to 6pm)

Marra will join this online forum, bringing together built environment professionals from around the country.

In a session to be chaired by the City of Moreton Bay’s Emma Healy, she will explore ways to tackle knowledge gaps and embrace new tools and systems in the wake of changing climatic conditions.

She will also be joined by Theresa Bower, Director of Burrundi Design Studio, and Ellen Buttrose, Cairns City Architect.

This event is an initiative of Architecture Climate Futures, Parlour, Australian Architects Declare and ACAN Australia. CPD points are available. Register here.

Australian Bushfire Building Conference — Wednesday 11 September to Friday 13 September

Hosted in the Blue Mountains, this year’s event marks ten years since the conference’s inception.

Notably, this is the only event of its type for professionals involved in the planning, designing, building, landscaping, consulting, regulating and certification of buildings in bushfire-prone areas.

Attending architects will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research, policies and practices and how they could help shape/inform bushfire-resilient design.

Marra will be part of an expert panel, assembled to discuss designing for bushfire and climate resilience. She will be joined on stage by architects Renate Carius and Simon Anderson.
