In today's world, where sustainability is at the forefront of our minds, businesses like Modinex are making a difference by revolutionising how we think about aluminium and the supply chain. Recognising the importance of responsible sourcing and choosing more sustainable materials, the Modinex team has decided to switch to Capral's LocAl Green lower carbon aluminium.
Modinex has partnered with Capral, Australia's leading aluminium supplier, to reduce the carbon footprint of products within their offering by choosing a lower-carbon aluminium option upfront.
"One of the reasons we love working with aluminium is that it is 100% recyclable; in fact, most of the aluminium ever produced is still in use. Aluminium is light and resilient and can be easily fabricated and finished. It is durable, low maintenance, and perfect for use in the built environment. The only drawback is that it is highly energy-intensive to produce. LocAl allows us to capture all the wonderful benefits aluminium brings to our products whilst reducing the emissions associated with the material upfront," says Dean Crowther, Head of Marketing and Architectural Specification at Modinex.
The Capral LocAl Green lower carbon aluminium option provides Modinex access to primary aluminium produced using alternative energy sources, offering a substantially lower embodied carbon than global averages for primary aluminium production.
LocAl Green has a CO2e of 8kg CO2e/Kg Al versus the current global average of 13.9kg CO2e/Kg Al*.
"Capral's LocAl Green is now our standard material for our Alu Selekta Castellation and Alu Selekta Channel ranges, which also carry Code Mark Certification, are Cyclone Rated and Salt Walter Certified. LocAl is also standard on our Alu Batten and Austratus Fin & Flat products."
"All of our aluminium products are available in Interpon or Dulux powdercoating finishes or our signature Double Baked powdercoat timber grain that provides a 25-year structural warranty and 15-year warranty against fading, highly regarded within the industry," adds Dean.
Modinex products are used throughout Australia in commercial and residential spaces; their market-leading brands are synonymous with quality, reliability, and innovation.
Modinex's LocAl Green lower carbon aluminium is extruded locally within Australia by Capral, reducing transportation-related emissions, supporting the local economy, and carrying the increasingly important Aluminium Stewardship (ASI) certification.
During 2023, Capral Aluminium was certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 and Chain of Custody (CoC) V2 for the extrusion, warehousing and distribution of aluminium products and services. The certifications apply to all of Capral's 26 facilities, composed of mills, distribution centres, and trade centres spread across every state and territory in Australia.
These certifications recognise Capral's commitment to responsible production, sourcing, and management of aluminium products, providing Modinex and their clients with added assurance about the responsible sourcing of their aluminium products.
"In addition to supplying aluminium products, Modinex has a range of timber batten and cladding options; we have come to rely upon the forestry certifications of our suppliers as assurance about the responsible management of the timber products we source. Our entire range of natural timber species has full PEFC Certification. It is wonderful that a similar program exists for aluminium, and Capral has taken the initiative to achieve certification against the rigorous standards."
Modinex's choice to use LocAl Green lower carbon aluminium from Capral showcases its dedication to sustainability and leadership in environmentally responsible manufacturing. By prioritising the sourcing of lower carbon aluminium carrying ASI Certification, Modinex is taking steps towards reducing the carbon footprint of their finished aluminium products whilst maintaining the high-quality standards that architects, designers, and builders have come to associate with their market-leading brands.
