The third iteration of the Asia Pacific Architecture Forum will take place in Brisbane this March.

Following the announcement of several highlights, the full program of events for 2018 have been announced. The program – running between 10 and 23 March – will examine the opportunities that the region presents for architects, designers and planners.

According to the forum’s organisers, this year’s top events include:

UQ ARCHITECTURE LECTURE SERIES

When: 13 and 20 March, 6 – 8pm
Where: State Library of Queensland, Stanley Place, South Brisbane

The UQ Architecture Lecture Series brings together forward-thinking architects, designers and intellectuals who generate new knowledge and strategies in architecture. Kelly Shannon (OSA Urbanism & Architecture) will present on 13 March, while Michael Banney (M3architecture) will present on 20 March.

THE ARCHITECTURE SYMPOSIUM

When: 16 March, 9am – 5pm
Where: Auditorium 1 and Queensland Terrace, State Library of Queensland, Stanley Place, South Brisbane

Fourteen practitioners will come together for this one-day symposium that explores the innovative thinking and transformative projects that are creating new world cities for the emerging Asian century. They will address the way communities from across the region are responding to the demands of the future and the pivotal role that architecture plays.

TOWARDS OPENNESS AUSTRALIAN LAUNCH

When: 17 March, 11am – 12pm
Where: Level 2, State Library of Queensland, Stanley Place, South Brisbane

This event will see the launch of a new architecture book, Towards Openness by Li Hu and Huang Wenjing of OPEN Architecture. The book features seven built projects and six idea chapters that are interwoven to offer an in-depth examination of OPEN’s practice and the critical thinking underlying its work.

DON WATSON: A CIVIL SERVANT

When: 19 March – 11 May, 9am – 5pm (Monday to Friday)
Where: Australian Institute of Architects, Queensland Chapter, 70 Merivale St, South Brisbane

This exhibition focuses on the works of Donald Watson, a prolific architect who has made a significant contribution to Australian architecture culture through his body of built works, historical research, and writings. 

MOVEMENT BY DESIGN

When: 22 March, 5.30 – 7.30pm
Where: Dome Room, Museum of Brisbane, 64 Adelaide Street, Brisbane

Architects and designers are at the forefront of creating built environments and spaces that can enrich the experience of urban commuters and make the city both competitive and distinctive. This panel of experts will debate what encapsulates great transit design and experiences in a sub-tropical climate.
