London-based magazine Wallpaper has recognised Australian firm Arkhefield in its 9th annual Global Design Awards for the interior design of the Stokehouse Q restaurant in Brisbane which was shortlisted to one of five from across the world.

The design of the building incorporates timber throughout with a large terrace and a curving wall of stacked timber battens inset with spaces for the bar, wine cellar and private dining room.

The judges for the Awards were: Ferran Adria, Farida Khelfa, Julian Opie, Rick Owens, Oki Sato and Pritzker Prize winning architect, Wang Shu.

Arkhefield were commissioned to design the 'younger sibling' to Melbourne's Van Haandel Group restaurant and worked with fitout and refurbishment company Isis.

Other restaurant designs in the category were The Attimo in Sao Paulo, The NoMad in New York, The Geist in Copenhagen and Dabbous in London.

The restaurant opened in late 2011 after the New Year floods and serves modern Australian food.
