The Rheem 24 7 Star Equivalent was named 2011 Energy Saving Product of the Year at the annual Master Plumbers Association awards for excellence in Western Australia.

The company’s group product manager John Wilkins comments: “A combination of factors is leading homeowners to consider more energy efficient forms of water heating: rising energy prices, greater awareness of the need to reduce water wastage, and the rolling phase out of electric water heaters around Australia.”

“Rheem 24 7 Star Equivalent ticks all the boxes. With its high efficiency design and reduced energy use, it’s setting new standards in continuous flow, incorporating the very latest in Rheem’s advanced hot water technology.

“This product meets Rheem’s environmental objectives in reducing home energy consumption and reducing water wastage — plus it’s highly recyclable at end of life.”

Innovative design and technology

“Standard continuous flow water heaters transfer heat to the water passing through them, via a gas-fired copper heat exchanger. While they are 5 Star energy efficient, a large amount of latent heat can be lost through the flue,” he says.

“To address this, Rheem 24/7 employs a second stainless steel high-efficiency heat exchanger, positioned after its standard heat exchanger. This secondary heat exchanger captures the still-hot flue air and extracts from it as much of otherwise wasted latent heat as is possible.”

This significantly increases the Rheem 24/7’s energy efficiency, by transferring a higher percentage of the heat created by this flue air into the water, and reducing the temperature of the flue gases that are emitted.
