Winning projects of the International Architecture Awards for 2013 are to be exhibited at the 14th International Biennial of Architecture Buenos Aires in September.
The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies selected 60 buildings, commercial and institutional developments, and urban planning projects from 20 nations as winners this year.
Six of those were Australian projects including:
-
RMIT Design Hub in Melbourne design by Sean Godsell Architects
-
Ravenswood School for Girls in Sydney designed by BVN Donovan Hill
-
The Kinghorn Cancer Centre in Sydney designed by BVN Donovan Hill
-
The Wharf Road in Surfer’s Paradise designed by Oppenheim Architecture + Design, LLP
-
St Barnabas Broadway in Sydney designed by Francis-Jones Morehand Thorp (fjmt)
-
West Kimberley Regional Prison in Derby, WA by TAG Architects and Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects.
The Chicago Athenaeum president Christian Narkiewicz-Laine says each of the projects positively impact its larger community – sometimes modestly, but most often massively.
“All projects exhibit innovation in design, acute sensitivity to the environment, sustainability, adaptability to their surroundings, and provision of enjoyment to their many users.”
