Google has announced it is to buy technology firm Nest for $3.2 billion.
Nest, founded by former Apple executives Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, created the programmable thermostat, which can be controlled from a smartphone.
Building Products News picked the Nest thermostat as one ‘green’ product which should make its way to Australia in the August Environ feature.
The thermostat can be taught your temperature needs according to daily and weekly habits. It has been calculated that Nest can reduce cooling and heating bills by up to 20%.
With Google getting its hands on Nest, it might be just what the thermostat needs to become a global product.
