Australian practice is set to follow the American trend towards 3D modelling, which will revolutionise architecture in Australia, a leading global firm has said.
The modelling will take the “fear” out of measuring and allow users to price buildings more sensibly, Woods Bagot regional managing director for Australia, Rodger Dalling, told Architecture & Design.
“Americans are going forward with three-dimensional modelling which will really take off in Australia,” Dalling said.
Still in its infancy, Dalling said the technology takes two-dimensional drawings to a “whole new level” and transforms concrete measures and beams into three-dimensional images to take the mystery out of design.
Woods Bagot has been recognized as the International Practice of the Year at the AJ100 Awards in London, which recognizes the achievements of the top 100 firms in the UK.
Dalling said the firm’s global business model went a long way towards winning the award.
“Our global network gives us greater mobility to research and lead the way for new and innovative developments in design,” he told Architecture & Design.
With 15 studios in five different regions, Woods Bagot dedicates a portion of revenue to research to work towards innovations in design and sustainability and ways to improve building efficiency.
“Our global structure allows us to share knowledge and build on international skill sets to keep at the top of our game and kick start new developments in design,” Dalling said.
