One of Melbourne’s largest residential developments may be developed on the site of Melbourne’s Lonsdale Street Power Station in the CBD.

Far East Consortium International, which refused speak to Architecture & Design, plans to adapt the area into 2,500 apartments, potentially making it of Melbourne’s largest residential apartment projects.

The development, which would consist of four towers of around 40-storeys each, would sit on a podium about five storeys high and has not yet gained planning approval.

“The four storeys will sit on a podium and the podium is about five storeys high, which is what the city and the planners want, Far East executive director, Craig Williams, said.

Cottee Parker Architects designed the building.

According to the plans of each tower, the bases will comprise between 50 and 60 retail frontages.

There are plans for a 4,000 sqm green roof, along with water tanks that originally were part of the old power station and are being retrained to store water run off.

Far East will commence the first tower after planning approval and a new tower is planned for every year after.

Each of the towers will be on the corner of a main street and will cross Lonsdale Street, Spencer Street, Little Bourke Street, Rose Alley and Cleve Lane.
