Roads company RACV and US-based urban design firm Alta Planning and Design have won the tender to operate a bike share programme in Melbourne.
The bikes will be branded in the run up to the state election with the Brumby brand.
RACV general manager, Gordon Oakley, said the organisation was delighted with the announcement and looked forward to rolling out the program in the City of Melbourne.
“Evidence from bike share programs around the world demonstrates that there are enormous transport and health benefits from these programs and RACV is delighted to be bringing these important benefits to Victorians,” Oakley said.
“With more than two million members, a 400 seat call centre and a website recording more than 250,000 visits a month, RACV can offer a high level of exposure to ensure the success of the Bike Share program.”
The program will initially cater for 600 bicycles across 50 stations around the City of Melbourne.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for those living and working in and around Melbourne to jump on a bike to get to and from work rather than use a car and for those visiting our beautiful city to explore it by bike,” Oakley said.
