A NSW architectural firm has become the first in the state and only second in the country to achieve bushfire accreditation from the Fire Protection Association of Australia (FPAA).

Architectural firm Fire Quench became accredited yesterday. The only other accredited Australian firm is Surfers Paradise-based Eldon Bottcher Architect.

The accreditation will allow the firm to skip a convoluted process, director Raz Guirguis told Architecture & Design.

Traditionally, architects will design a project before bushfire assessments are made. However, Fire Quench is planning to report first and then design accordidng, Guirguis said.

“We have a shorter process for the client, it’s much cheaper as well because there are no changes,” he said.

“This is a niche market that no one has really gone into. Our clients are going to see the benefit of this very quickly, especially on large developments where they don’t want to run around to different consultants collecting reports from different areas. We can provide a one-stop shop.”
