Emerging architects are putting forward their visions of Canberra as part of this year’s National Architecture Week, which begins today.

Canberra’s Gallery of Australian Design will host the Push New Ideas competition and exhibition, in which young architects brainstorm the City of Canberra. Responding to Push New Ideas, established architects and community members consider the state of Civic with the forum titled “Civic: The Old Pull”, on Friday 30 October.

The week kicks off with the official presentation of the Architecture Canberra Medallion to the National Portrait Gallery at 4pm this evening Monday 26 October), followed by a special lecture on the design of the gallery building by the gallery’s architect, Richard Johnson, titled ‘Art and Architecture’. The weekend focuses on bringing architecture to the public with free seminars allowing visitors to speak to four local architects, Allan Spira, Pedro Geleris, Janet Thomson and Philip Leeson.

There is also an architectural lake cruise guided by Roger Pegrum and exhibitions of the 2009 ACT architecture awards, Cox Humphries Moss Student Design Prize, 2009 New Push and Industrial Design Students’ Chairs.? ?Full program of events at architecture.com.au/act
