Sydney's historic The Harbour Rocks Hotel has reopened last week after extensive renovations took place to expose the colonial history of the building. The hotel is a colonial three-level building with six adjoining terraces built in 1887. The hotel has 59 rooms and was originally Sydney's first hospital. The redesign began in 2011 with the interiors modernised by design studio SJB Interiors and the restaurant Scarlett was nominated for the 2012 Interior Design Awards. The hotel has been stripped back to now have the original sandstone and brick walls exposed as well as an open courtyard and old working cottages. The aim of the refurbishment was to expose the history of the building said Owner Robert Magid of TMG Developments."The creativity and craftsmanship that we have seen put into the redesign will mean that our guests are staying in a truly world class hotel. This site bears important historical significance for the city of Sydney and we are very proud to offer a setting that pays homage to that," he said. The re-opening was hosted by television presenter Richard Wilkins and featured performances from singer David Campbell, harpist Victor Valdes and a quartet from the Sydney Symphony.
