Gold Coast-based DBI Design received three awards this week for buildings and interiors in Australia and the Middle East.The billion dollar Jumeriah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, which the company designed, engineered and fitted-out, was named Best Business Hotel for the Middle East and Best Buisness Hotel Abu Dhabi at the Business Traveller Magazine Awards.The Darling at Star. The firm won Best Mixed Use Architecture and Mixed Use Interior at the Asia Pacific Property Awards for the $350 million The Oracle development on the Gold Coast.While The Darling at Star in Sydney won the Asia Pacific Property Award for Best New Hotel Construction and Design for its construction company Brookfield Multiplex and owner Echo Entertainment GroupEtihad Towers in the United Arab Emirates.DBI Director of Design Barry Lee said the awards recognised the talent that is present in Australia on a global scale."Our focus is always on creating developments that are individual and will stand the test of time, so these awards are a reflection of that commitment," he said."They are also a fantastic endorsement of the quality of the architecture and design coming out of the Gold Coast and Australia. It really is world leading."DBI are currently working on the 84 level Infinity Sheraton on the Gold Coast and the 73 level Soleil towers and a Transited Oriented Development (TOD) The Milton in Brisbane while internationally it has projects in United Arab Emirates, India, Vietnam, Taiwan and China.Lee said that the majority of their work comes from referrals particularly for international jobs and that thanks to technology they are able to complete the majority of the work from Australia."Some find it hard to believe that a firm based on the Gold Coast could be completing so much high-profile work around the world, but we have continued to build our international reputation over the past two decades," said Mr Lee.The Oracle development on the Gold Coast."With today's modern technology, we can do the majority of the design work for these large scale projects right here on the Gold Coast and have the opportunity to work on large scale iconic international projects - like the Etihad Towers, which has become an Abu Dhabi landmark."
