As singles living alone continue to be Australia's fastest growing household group, a picture is emerging whereby developers are targeting the market.
Press statements issued by the developers behind the Turner+ Associates designed apartments going up in Sydney (pictured above) have singled out some pertinent figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
It says show Australia's households are shrinking at a faster rate than at any time in our history, with the average number of occupants down to just 2.4 persons, 'yet the physical size of houses keeps getting bigger to lead the world at 243 sqm per detached dwelling'.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics cited by Colliers International , singles living alone are our fastest growing group, and are projected to reach 3.1-million - or 30.2 per cent of all households - by 2026.
Thy note that factors contributing to lone person households include:
- an ageing population
- longer life expectancy of women over men
- increases in separation and divorce, and
- people delaying getting married
- Sensibly, apartments are catering for home-aloners.
They are publicising the new apartment development Link, Zetland in Sydney, designed by architects Turner + Associates.
Link will have a total of 230 apartments plus a 2,950sqm public plaza and two interconnecting retail colonnades. Residents will have their own dedicated car parking, with separate parking areas for visitors and retail patrons.
