A former judge of the NSW Land and Environment Court has been elected as the chairman of the Urban Taskforce at its annual general meeting today.
The new chairman, Noel Hemmings QC, was Counsel Assisting the Commission during last year’s ICAC hearings into Wollongong City Council.
Hemmings is a consultant at law firm Allens Arthur Robinson, a longstanding member of the Urban Taskforce.
The Taskforce’s chief executive, Aaron Gadiel, was delighted with the appointment.
“Noel is one of Australia’s leading environmental and planning law experts,” Gadiel said.
“Few people would claim to know more about the planning system than Noel Hemmings.”
Hemmings said that he welcomed the opportunity to make a difference.
“I look forward to constructively contributing to the future of property development,” Hemmings said.
“The Urban Taskforce has played a strong role in the public debate and I want to see that continue.”
Hemmings paid tribute to Bob Rose who has retired as the Taskforce’s chairman after seven years of service.
“Bob Rose is an outstanding developer and industry leader,” he said.
