The Hilton Community Centre has taken the highest honour in the 2012 Australian Institute of Architects' Western Australia chapter awards, the George Temple Poole Award presented to the project judged most worthy of all the category winners.

The centre also won the John Septimus Roe Award for Urban Design.

In all, 43 awards and commendations were made from a field of 123 entries in the awards program.

The project included restoration, refurbishment and new works to existing community facilities carried for the City of Fremantle.

The awards jury noted:

"By resurrecting the long-compromised principles of its original ‘tablet landscape’ the site is being re-made providing access for all within a shared, civic, garden setting. Humble in origin and limited in means this project masterfully draws neglected and modest but dignified public buildings into a new ensemble. The new buildings are a delight and clearly the result of patient and dedicated practice."

“The result is a truly civic neighbourhood environment- inner, peripheral and landscape.
