World famous architectural artist Stephen Wiltshire is well on the way to completing a detailed panoramic drawing of Brisbane, from memory, after viewing the city from the wheel on Southbank.
The genius artist is able to survey a city, its architectural structure and landscape and then replicate exactly what he has seen on canvas.
The public is invited to watch as Brisbane is sketched over a four metre canvas over four days, via the artist’s felt tip pen. The work is expected to be completed by Tuesday.
The autistic artist has gained worldwide acclaim for his large scale and highly detailed drawings of many of the world’s great cities including New York, Tokyo, Venice, London and Sydney.
Wiltshire was planning to fly over Brisbane city in a helicopter, before drawing the city, however, as he explained on his blog: “My helicopter ride was cancelled to overcast weather, so I went on the Brisbane Wheel instead. I got to see the skyline so I could memorise it.”
