Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys owner, has built a $1.3 billion monument to his team in Arlington, west of Dallas. The stadium (pictured above), which covers 279,000 sqm, is the largest in the world. Two arches create a record breaking column-free span of 373m while supporting a retractable roof that stands 89m above ground level. The stadium includes luxury suites, Vegas-style clubs, party platforms and exterior plazas with supporters being able to watch games on any one of the stadium’s 3,000 screens.

A $1 million prize will be awarded to the designer of a retrofitted building that can remain 'zero carbon' for a year. The International Building Re-Skinning Competition, held in Barcelona, has been created by Canada's Ron Dembo, who's company, Zerofootprint, was set up to help companies manage emissions. The competition is the biggest of its kind and will judge retrofits of concrete buildings built between 1945 and 1990.
