Copenhagen's new bridge puts ships within arm's reach, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to create Premier League rivalry and architectural giants compete for Swedish crematorium design.

DENMARK

London's Studio Bednarski and Flint & Neill will work with New York's Hardesty & Hanover and Speirs and Major for a new opening bridge in Copenhagen. The bridge, which has a span of 50m and total length of 180m, is the key component of a scheme which involves three smaller bridges built over canals. Apart from its low profile and minimal obstruction to views, the bridge also has horizontal viewing platforms making it possible for people to be within arm's reach of passing ships.

UNITED KINGDOM

The application for the 56,000 capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been submitted, representing a desire from the club to compete with other Premier League teams. Architects KSS designed the stadium to be a key element of the wider regeneration of the Haringey area. The wider plans, masterplanned by MAKE include the stadium, a public square, a hotel, a supermarket and 434 new homes.

SWEDEN

Five architectural firms including Caruso St John, BIG and Tadao Anso have been invited to enter a competition to design a crematorium at the Woodland Cemetery in Stockholm. The competition brief said that the crematorium must have "the qualities of symbolic and sacred expression to receive mourners. It is a matter of the utmost architectural delicacy to design a new building in the setting of Asplund's Woodland Cemetery."

UNITED STATES

The fourth biennial international ideas competition, High Bridge: Bronx, Building Cultural Infrastructure, is being held in New York. Open to all emerging design and engineering professional, including architects and planner, the competition is for the design of an arts centre that culturally reinforces the physical connection between Manhattan and Bronx High Bridge communities.

NORWAY

Metropolitan Workshop and Arkitektkontoret Vardaal-Lunde have won a competition to design a conference and exhibition centre to be built at the old shipbuilding docks in Bergen. The 30,000 sqm project includes a 240-bed, five star hotel surrounded by water, with large areas of waterfront terraces and boardwalks featuring cafes and restaurants.
