The Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) has made public the categories and dates for the 2010 National Architecture Awards.
The institute is predicting record numbers of entries for this year’s event, which will feature 10 categories: public architecture; urban design; international architecture; commercial architecture; sustainable architecture; residential architecture; heritage architecture; interior architecture; small project architecture; and COLORBOND® award for steel architecture.
The National Architecture Awards have been held annually since 1981. Entries close after a three to four month period, at which time the judging process in each state and territory begins.
Local jury members in accordance with the award’s conditions of entry visit selected buildings, before choosing projects to become the state finalists.
In early July, all winning entries are forwarded to the national office and the recipients of chapter awards come under the close scrutiny of the national jury.
The national jury consists of five members: four prominent architects and one non-architect of national prominence.
The judges consider how well the project meets its original intentions, client satisfaction, environmental performance and contribution to the advancement of architecture in appraising the projects.
