A burgeoning public interest in design has led architect Robert Harwood to create a new brokering service that puts clients in touch with designers.
My Architect, while not a free service, claims to bring in extra work for designers as well as take on some of the administration involved in quoting for bite-sized chunks of work.
The pay-as-you-go system allows means that homeowners can budget for the cost of engaging an architect, even if it’s for a small project, while architects get paid at each step of the way.
A client pays a fixed fee of $825.00 (including GST) for an initial half-day visit from an architect with an outline proposal for their renovation.
Harwood developed the service in response to what he believes is a growing interest among homeowners in employing architects for renovations and improvements.
“Exposure to the rising quality of design in everyday life has helped create a newly informed breed of Australian homeowners who are not only looking at how to maximise value but who also demand better design,” Harwood said.
“They’re seeking more accessible, more affordable solutions when it comes to advice on design inspiration, drawings, planning and building,” he said.
My Architect is based in Melbourne and the Geelong/Surf Coast region and will be expanding to Sydney in 2010.
