A New York artist is tackling the issues of housing, mobility and autonomy with a fully functioning pop-up camper.
Kevin Cyr’s useable sculptures embody the sustainable principles of self reliance and making do.
His Camper Kart takes an ubiquitous urban object and transforms it into a home on wheels, complete with a front and back door, side pop-out panels and canvas walls.
Originally a painter, Cyr was interested in odd and derelict vehicles, capturing old delivery trucks coated in graffiti and rust, well-travelled RVs, Indian rickshaws and Asian bikes. He still documents his sculpture thought painting.??On a trip to Beijing, Cyr came up with his previous design of a Camper Bike, an amalgamation of a Chinese three-wheeled flatbed bike with an American cabover style camper.
He is currently one third into the construction process for his travelling trolley.
