A group of RMIT students are protesting against the demolition of Lonsdale House under a design by NH Architecture by generating their own alternative.
The group of three members calling itself Young Architects has been working on a design that preserves Lonsdale House while satisfying the requirement of the Myer redevelopment.
The new design (pictured) proposes to “bite” a part of Lonsdale House's east facade for delivery access. The bitten part has been replaced with the floating orange balls hanging over the lane way.
The proposal retains the floor plate of the existing building and changes the level of the current scheme to follow the existing Lonsdale House floor level.
The student group has created a full set of architectural drawings and 3D models, working within the guidelines of the development project including cost and time constraints.
