A traditional red phone box is being reused as one of Britain’s tiniest libraries, stocking just 100 books.

A resident in Somerset’s Westbury-sub-Mendip came up with the idea after the village lost both a phone box and a mobile library in quick succession.

“It’s completely full at the moment with books. Anyone is free to come and take a book and leave one that you have already read,” parish councilor Bob Dolby said, reports the BBC.

“The facility has turned a piece of street furniture into a community service in constant use,” he said.

They bought the phone box from telecoms firm BT for just £1 as part of a national scheme that encourages the iconic phone boxes to be adopted.

So far 350 phone boxes have been adopted, with some being turned into art installations, a shower and even a public toilet.
