A new $90 million, 14 storey apartment tower called Alta designed by Tony Owen with Turner + Associates has been completed in Surry Hills, Sydney.
There are 115apartments in the complex which was inspired by the 'heel of a woman's shoe'.
The east-face of the building steps down to six levels and has a café plaza on the lower level.
Geometric panels of colour feature on the exterior as well as inside, with colourful glass-backed lift lobbies and corridors illuminated by fluorescent lights.
The metallic exterior finish is hard-wearing and easy-care and exterior adjustable aluminium shutters have been installed for privacy.
“The shutters give residents control over their environment - sun, rain, wind, shelter, noise - and provide options to suit their mood; private versus open, indoor versus outdoor,” said architect Tony Owen.
The apartments range from studios to three-bedrooms, each with either a balcony or wintergarden. The building is one of the tallest in the immediate area allowing upper level apartments to have views.
Owen added:
“Alta is a vivacious building in the heart of Sydney’s premier food and entertainment precinct,” said Owen, who runs his architectural practice from nearby Chippendale. “Living here amidst the cafes, nightclubs, theatres, boutiques, galleries, museums, bars, designer shops and fashion outlets is a young person’s dream.”
Alta was developed by Anka Property Group.
