The practice has unveiled the revival of 418a Elizabeth Street, a landmark commercial high-rise in the heart of Surry Hills.

With a mix of tech companies, boutique financial firms, and not-for-profits calling this building home, it was essential to deliver a design that balanced aesthetics, functionality, and the unique character of the streetscape.

WMK in collaboration with Arcadia Landscape Architecture led the comprehensive upgrade, revamping the ground plane, entry lobby, third spaces, façade, End of Trip amenities, carpark, basement bike parking, vertical transport, and creating a multifunctional rooftop garden.

The design blends modern functionality with the area's rich “Rag Trade” heritage, incorporating a striking mural by local artist Nick Hernandez and curated architectural lighting that enhances the streetscape.

Australian timber veneer adds warmth and durability to the lobby whilst being hard wearing and commercially suitable.

Materials for the upgraded amenities were selected with a high-end appearance but with consideration for cost-effectiveness.

“418a Elizabeth Street is now a modern, stylish, and functional landmark, offering a seamless and elevated experience for all tenants and a perfect balance between commercial appeal and Surry Hills’ creative energy,” says the practice.
