Brightgreen has announced the winner of its 2012 Switched On student design competition as Queensland University of Technology student Benjamin Donnelly for his sustainable LED skirting board.

Second prize went to Tamara Kyd from the University of Canberra while Daniel Broder from Swinburne took out the third prize with his 'Bionic Flower'.

Donnelly's Path LED skirting board system allows users to navigate their homes at night through indirect orientation lighting, which blends in with a residential or commercial environment.

Brightgreen CEO and head product designer, David O'Driscoll led the judging process and said:

"The aim of Switched On is to uncover the ultimate eco-lighting solution, as conceived by a student designer. Benjamin really achieved this with Path, which offers both a practical and sustainable solutions."

Switched on is a national competition run by Brightgreen, giving design students the chance to create the ultimate eco-lighting solution for home or commercial use. Designs can be fixed or free-standing downlights, bulbs, lamps, task lights or any new lighting solution that harnesses LED technology.

The prize pool of $3000 will be shared by the winners.
