History SA is calling for registrations for the second Open House Adelaide event on 4 and 5 May 2013. To register your building online go to openhouseadelaide.com.au before the closing date of 1 February.
Open House Adelaide is a free event where heritage or significant contemporary buildings open their doors to the public for free and show a side to Adelaide few have seen.
Open House Adelaide is held as the key event of About Time: South Australia’s History Festival where hundreds of history related events are held state-wide during the month of May.
Open House Adelaide organisers says it presents the city from a different point of view.
“Venturing beyond the beautiful facades of some of the city’s best, but possibly least-known addresses, Open House Adelaide might see people peeking out over rooftops, uncovering the quirks of contemporary or Victorian interior design, or perhaps skulking around the cellars and vaults of otherwise private premises,” the publicity statement reads.
“If you manage or own a building of historical or architectural significance, or think your place represents cutting-edge design, sustainability or engineering brilliance, then now is the time to register it.”
Last year’s Open House Adelaide saw over 5,000 people participate. The event promotes greater awareness and discussion of the built fabric of Adelaide - past, present or future. Buildings in the Adelaide City Council local government area, or immediately surrounding areas, that can be open to the public for free are eligible to register.
It costs nothing to be involved in Open House Adelaide and History SA lists all registrations on a dedicated website and in a printed program which is distributed State-wide.
Registrations for Open House Adelaide are open until 1 February at www.openhouseadelaide.com.au
