Volcore non-combustible panels from ASKIN Performance Panels achieved a Class One performance to standards FM4880 and FM4881 in August 2020.
ASKIN’s Volcore standard slip joint and concealed fix ViviD insulated panel recently achieved a best in class by complying with the requirements of a Class One material under the test regime dictated by standards FM4880 and FM4881.
FM4880: Corner Room Test
The Unified Buildings Code 26-3 Corner Room test establishes the expected reaction of a specific product specimen to a standardised fire positioned against the corner joint at the base of two adjacent walls, with dimensions of 2.4m Width x 2.4m Height x 3.6m Length.
A calibrated wood crib applied at the base corner of the room is set to burn for thirty minutes.
ASKIN’S non-combustible Volcore panels achieved a best in class performance.
FM4880 unlimited height Class One Group A approval
In principle, the corner room test determines the following:
- The potential for fire spread up and along the walls and ceiling is determined by the extent of char inside the panel.
- The potential for fire spread through a building is evaluated by the measurement of the total rate of heat release of the fire, determining the material contribution to the fire.
FM4881: Structural Wall Test
The static and cyclic wall test intends to simulate a hurricane of growing and then declining intensity to demonstrate resistance to catastrophic failure, which is likely to cause danger to life and property.
The static test requires resistance to and holding of pressures up to 140% of the nominated design pressure, both against the purlins and the fixings for at least 60 seconds.
Stage one of the cyclic test is an increasing progression applied pressure to a nominated design pressure, which consists of 4500 cycles of increasing pressure against the purlins.
Stage two consists of 50 cycles held at the nominated design pressure for at least one second per cycle, followed by 4450 cycles of decreasing pressure against the fixings.
ASKIN’s Volcore standard slip joint and concealed fix ViviD insulated panel achieved a Class One rating for flat panel and for concealed fix ViviD panel by complying with the requirements of a Class One material under the test regime dictated by standard FM4881.
