Elite Home Improvements of Australia (EHI) presents a range of childproof window screens designed to prevent children from falling out of windows.
Statistics indicate that from 2011 to 2013, almost 50 children aged nine or younger were hospitalised in NSW after falling out of windows.
Sydney company Elite Home Improvements has now come up with a solution that will not only save lives, but also create jobs.
A member of HIA and Master Builders Association, EHI has developed the child safety screen, an Australian designed and built insect screen for windows that is capable of holding 250 Nm or 25kg of force for a minimum of 10 seconds. EHI has been in the home window screens industry for almost 20 years.
EHI Managing Director Andrew Johnston explains that their child safety screens are not only a commonsense addition to any home, but also one that is now backed by the full force of the law.
According to Mr Johnston, the latest NSW building safety codes now require any window that is more than 1700mm off the ground to have a safety screen that can withstand holding 250 Nm or 25kg of force for a minimum of 10 seconds fitted.
The new codes also require that these insect screens be regularly tested, which is something that EHI is capable of doing. EHI has now also partnered with a local testing laboratory that is certified to carry out regular testing of its child safety screens.
Mr Johnston believes that the new child safety screen is great news for Australian householders as well as for local manufacturers who will benefit from all the work needed to fit and retrofit these screens onto homes over the next 5-10 years. The new child safety screens are affordable, practical, and look almost identical to standard flyscreens.
