Gemini Mini kiosk
The client envisioned a 3x6m dessert kiosk in the bustling south entry precinct of Karrinyup Shopping Centre, aiming to replicate the charm of their flagship café in Perth CBD on a smaller scale. The design needed to incorporate the existing orange and white colour scheme and cater to a diverse clientele, including young adults, social media enthusiasts, families, and food connoisseurs. Central to the design was a bespoke cake display, creating a harmonious and visually appealing experience.
Drawing inspiration from the Gemini star sign, the designer fused Asian influences with a modern Western aesthetic to present meticulously crafted desserts and savoury treats. A vibrant and fun colour palette of oranges was used throughout the kiosk, enhanced by halo lighting to emphasise energy and freshness. The curved white display counter centrepiece showcased the chef’s creations in a custom-made glass cabinet. Customer engagement was prioritised, with the chef’s workspace positioned for constant interaction, adding to the unique experience.
The main counter was flanked by bronzed metal tubes and peach-toned grouted penny round tiles, with bronze accents on the rear side adding sophistication to the overall ambience. The counter's curvature mirrored the soft contours of patisserie desserts, enhancing the aesthetic appeal. The MEGANITE Soft Statuario countertop finish gives a freshly iced cake-like quality, maintaining a clean and subtle ambience. Crafted from seamless MEGANITE acrylic solid surface material, the counter wraps around the kiosk, and orange halo lighting provides an ethereal glow underneath, creating a visually captivating effect.
Signage elements featured curved orange panels cascading over the white counter front and overhead signage rail, enhancing the fluidity and cohesion of the design while effectively branding the kiosk.
Maximising the limited 3x6m space was a challenge. A self-service unit was integrated at one end of the kiosk to alleviate congestion at the ordering counter. Optimising the space under the curved counter was crucial, with a custom refrigerated display cabinet ingeniously stepped to fit within the curvature. This ensured efficient storage, display, and service of the delectable desserts, culminating in a symphony of wonderment.
