The
Frame & Truss Manufacturers Association of Australia Ltd (FTMA Australia) is responsible for representing all those involved in the timber frame and truss industry.
In particular, the association caters to the needs of timber frame and truss manufacturers, fabricators and suppliers.
The association has three main aims:
- To provide the timber frame and truss industry with a voice
- To protect and promote the timber frame and truss industry
- To formulate appropriate industry standards
As a result of its national operation the association is recognised by various government and regulatory bodies. These bodies often seek the association's assistance and input when policy relating to the timber frame and truss industry is introduced or requires amendment.
The association sits on various committees and industry related groups in order to ensure the interests of the timber frame and truss industry and its members are heard.
These include:
- ForestWorks – this body addresses education, training and professional development within the frame and truss industry
- TM1, TM2 and TM3 Australian Standards Committees
- The Forest & Wood Products Council
- The Forest and Wood Products Australia Research Committee
- Worksafe
The association has developed its own Code of Ethics, and members are required to operate in accordance with this code.
The code aims to ensure that timber frame and truss manufacturers, fabricators and suppliers provide quality services, act professionally, uphold safe working practices and provide sufficient training to workers, among others.
The association provides its members with access to informative and educational lectures, conferences, seminars and training courses that are relevant to the timber frame and truss industry.
Furthermore, it plays a vital role in ensuring members are well informed regarding industry changes, new product developments and so forth, by collecting and publishing such information and distributing it to them.
