Leighton Properties and joint venture partner Qualitas have announced a new 20-storey apartment complex to tap into the lifestyle potential of Bondi Junction.
Located on the corner of Oxford Street and Hollywood Avenue, the new residential development is appropriately named AQUA to reflect the iconic Sydney Harbour and ocean views achieved by most of the 129 apartments. It will encompass high quality design, north and easterly apartment aspects and unique interior design by Koichi Takada.
Designed by Kann Finch Architects in collaboration with DC8 Studio, AQUA will consist of ‘cool and contemporary’ apartments ranging from studios to three-bedroom units.
The exterior design uses a glass lobby to link two sculpted towers that are positioned on a podium to maximise view corridors. Having just one neighbouring building to the south allows light to flood into all floors and enhances the views, which include the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
AQUA has street level retail, landscaped private outdoor spaces on the podium level and rooftop gardens. It will be built on a gateway 1,309sqm site adjacent to Westfield Shopping Centre and just 500 metres from Bondi Junction’s train and bus interchange.
Leighton Properties National Head of Residential Gavin Tonnet comments that their vision for AQUA reflects the prominence of this site and provides an opportunity to supplement the ‘introverted nature’ of the Westfield Centre and bring the community back to the streets.
Director of Qualitas' real estate principal investment business Mark Fischer expects AQUA to be Bondi Junction’s most prestigious residential building, pointing out the location’s accessibility to transport, shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
Demand for AQUA is certain to be high following the
success of recent Bondi Junction developments such as Capitol from
Legacy Property. It will be the third joint-venture between Leighton and the Melbourne-based Qualitas.
Colliers International has been appointed to act as sales agents for
the new development, with marketing anticipated to commence in May once a
display centre has been completed on site.
