Blackwood House, an apartment development in Dundee has integrated smart technology with Pressalit equipment to enhance accessibility for disabled residents.
Located on Glamis Road, Blackwood’s development includes six apartments that have been specially adapted for disabled residents, with the advanced smart CleverCogs technology assisting with everyday tasks and enabling independent living.
As a leader in accessible bathroom and kitchen design, Pressalit was brought into the project by Blackwood to ensure that both the kitchen and bathroom were equipped with the most flexible, functional and ergonomically designed equipment.
Blackwood’s CleverCogs technology is an innovative digitally enhanced care system that allows people with disability to live independently, completely in control and in their own home. Featuring a touchscreen home hub, the technology works across all aspects of an individual’s care, housing and support needs. Residents can simplify everyday tasks in their home at the touch of a button.
CleverCogs in the kitchen allows residents to readily raise or lower the height of Pressalit’s Indivo rise and fall kitchen work surfaces and wall mounted cupboards with a simple touch. The Indivo lifters also allow the wall cupboards to move forward and down for easy access.
Blackwood has installed the Pressalit PLUS wall-mounted track system in the fully adapted bathrooms. Setting new standards in accessible bathroom design, the Pressalit system featuring vertical and horizontal tracks, combines flexibility with function to offer new and improved height and horizontal adjustment for the user. This ensures the layout of the bathroom is futureproofed against the long term changing needs of individual users, as well as the multiple needs of different users.
The PLUS wall track system allows easy movement of individual bathroom elements such as washbasin, shower seat and support arms. The horizontal track makes it possible to move these elements along the wall, creating space for carers and wheelchair access, while the vertical track enables simple height adjustment to accommodate both standing and seated users.
The bathrooms feature generous turning space to allow wheelchair users to manoeuvre easily, while carers have sufficient space for working. The bathrooms are bright and modern, embracing the concept of a contemporary, versatile and functional space.
Blackwood marketing manager Colleen Robertson says, “The Pressalit range fits perfectly in the new homes as the modern designs are practical, customisable and a far cry from the clinical looking adaptations of the past. The bathrooms in particular come in bright modern colours with contemporary lines and change the perception of an adapted house.”
