A safe haven

Grace’s Place is a unique place of healing, restoration and care for children and young people affected by homicide. This centre strives to provide tailored support to young people and children as well as networks surrounding these kids to assist in ensuring stronger long-term support.

Located in Doonside NSW, Grace’s Place is a part of the Homicide Victims Support Group (NSW) and funded by the Federal and State Governments. The Centre is named in honour of Grace Lynch, mother of Anita Cobby and includes residential and counselling facilities. It is also the new Head Office of the Homicide Victims Support Group (Aust) Inc.

This centre offers a range of services and support from counselling to therapeutic programs and the opportunity to share experiences within a safe and understanding environment.

A place of healing and restoration

Designed by Sam Robinson, Grace’s Place embraces Australian Indigenous heritage and recognises traditional Indigenous names and meanings throughout the design of the building itself. Our Lichen 1.5 collection was selected for this project due to its perfect pairing with the natural elements of the interior design as well as the colour palette matching well with natural tones throughout the other interior elements of this design.

Grace’s Place utilises a range of colours from the Lichen 1.5 collection, perfectly integrating the intriguing flooring solution without being too dominant of the overall interior design. The coloured carpet planks used from this range are implemented in colour blocks to create zones as well as blended together to embrace the inspiring and calming colours.

The Lichen 1.5 collection has been designed using the biophilic references of lichen as it occurs within its natural environment. Drawing from the natural world allows us to create spaces a little more connected to our roots, which can have a profound impact on the health and wellbeing of occupants. This is especially beneficial for the spaces within Grace’s Place where healing and restoration are an important focus for its occupants.

Lichen 1.5 collection

Lichen 1.5 carpet planks are utilised throughout the office spaces, therapy rooms, counselling rooms, meeting rooms, accommodation rooms, quiet rooms, and caretaker accommodation. Therapists and administration staff were able to select individual colours for their workspaces to tailor to their own individual preferences whilst still feeling part of the overall design. The use of carpet planks was well suited for these spaces as they can be easily replaced if necessary; they are also hardwearing, which was an essential element of the design brief.

The Lichen 1.5 collection is inspired by assemblages of multi-hued, multi-textured lichens and their regenerative role in our ecosystem, and features a range of large blooms of concentrated colour accompanied by products with more subdued colour and base palettes.
