A revolutionary transformation has been taking place at Auckland International Airport as part of a major redevelopment since it opened in 1966. SAS International continues to partner and supply metal ceiling systems to the project since it commenced in 2022. The latest area to be completed last month was the Airport Transport Hub designed by Peddlethorpe Architects.

The Auckland Airport Transport Hub includes all new undercover drop-off and pick-up areas within the international terminal. For this phase of the project, the team at Peddlethorpe chose SAS International's versatile SAS740 system for the ceiling areas within the new undercover zones.

SAS740 is known for its creative flexibility and ability to accommodate complex geometry. The continuous linear profile system has the added advantage of being able to interplay with acoustic infill panels. The Light Oak WoodTones finish also provides a natural timber biophilic feel that adds warmth to this space.

“It has been a privilege working with the architect and builder through all stages of the project including the design and procurement phases. We were able to deliver on all areas thanks to our knowledge and expertise of working on many other airport projects such as Melbourne Airport, Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Dublin Airport, Newark Airport and Santiago Airport,” explains SAS International’s General Manager in Australia, Craig Penton.

The Auckland Airport and Transport Hub projects have been driven by more than aesthetics and functionality. The projects have sustainability at their core and have received the Parksmart Gold and 5 Green Star sustainability design ratings. This shows the commitment of both the designers and manufacturers to build environment-friendly practices. In particular, SAS was able to provide Cradle to Cradle Certified product as the first metal ceiling manufacturer currently to have received this rating to version 4.0.
