Patented Click-on connections
Our range of Click-on connections are designed and engineered to meet demanding building requirements. Custom designed to suit each of our products, our connections enable design freedom and flexibility, synonymous with our modular range.
Included in the Click-on connection is a clip that produces a solid click when the batten/ cladding/ screen engages with the mounting track clips. This push-fit connection results in a fast installation with completely concealed fixings. Clips are factory-fitted and pre-spaced to a mounting track, with a variety available to suit an application’s substrate.
The Click-on connection was devised to make installation fast and easy, for our timber and aluminium products in a range of sizes and profiles.
Clip types: Click-on battens
When the battens connect to the mounting track clips using our Click-on connection, a loud click is produced. With this push-fit connection, installation is quick, and the fixings can be hidden from view.
Direct fix clip
Used when battens are required to be fixed individually without a mounting track for in-fills, end details, or when no backing is required. The direct fix clip is screwed to the substrate, with a washer of a minimum 20mm diameter between the clip and the substrate.
Sliding clip
As building tolerances vary greatly, and often at the time of ordering, there is no confirmed site measurements, the sliding clip allows for ‘fudging’ – the spacing to maintain a symmetrical, consistent appearance at the peripheries of the layout. See example below.
Swivel clip
The swivel clip is designed to give the flexibility of using diagonal lines in creating linear textures. Used in combination with clip spacing, it gives an additional degree of freedom in the design.
Clip types: Click-on screens
Our famous Click-on connection has been incorporated into this product to allow for a seamless installation process. Click-on screens feature a button fixed to the back of the batten, which clicks securely into engagement in the clip base when slid up or down.
This connection is also easy to remove if the design changes, or it is damaged or not installed correctly the first time.
The system has two types of connections, one fixed and the other floating. The combination of the two secures the battens to a track, yet accommodates for building movement.
Core to the system is the button with a spigot, which locks into a stainless steel spring that locks it into place. The spring flexes within the mount as the button slides over it, and then clicks into place, securing the button within the mount.
The mount, in which the spring is fitted, limits movement in the remaining directions.
Back Mount Fixed: When using the Back Mount method, a 20mm clear gap is required above or below the batten to enable installation and removal of the battens. This allows for the button to clear the mount before sliding downwards to engage the button into the mount.
Back Mount Float: This clip is only designed to take up to ±5mm for installation and thermal movement. Not suitable for building movement. All mounting tracks to be fixed to a continuous frame that eliminates building movement. If your screen is a slab-to-slab application, or building movement is expected, refer to the End Mount floating clip. In this connection, the stainless steel spring is not inserted into the floating mount, so the spigot does not restrain movement in the vertical direction at the base, accommodating slight movement. The fixed mount restrains one, end leaving the other end free to accommodate slight variations.
End Mount Fixed: The End Mount Fixed connection requires an allowance of 15mm beneath the track to the batten to accommodate the mount/button assembly. This excludes the additional gap allowance required below to accommodate for building movement for the End Mount Float connection.
End Mount Float: The End Mount floating clip can take up to ±25mm of building movement using a mortise and tenon connection if installed with a 25mm gap under the screen batten.
The tenon allows for movement of up to 25mm in either direction, working like a piston inside the mortise to allow for movement between slabs. All while the fixed mount secures it at the other end of the batten. The tenon base is secured to the bottom track using the same spigot/spring system as the fixed mount to restrain the tenon from horizontal movement.
Connection: Click-on cladding
Rather than the previous two Click-on products, which have clips as part of the connection, Click-on cladding is designed to click together via the shape of the extrusion on each side of the cladding piece.
Click-on cladding was designed to incorporate the Click-on system to reduce the need for screw stitching every piece of cladding board to a base frame.
There are two series in the range, Series 1 and 2. Series 1 was designed predominantly as a non-combustible alternative to timber cladding using common cover and shadow line designs. Series 2 was designed as a palette of profiles to arrange in various sequences to give more freedom in the design of the cladding texture. Mixing flat profiles with seams, blocks and flutes allows for a more customised texture.
One of the key design considerations was to work as the outer leaf of a back drained, ventilated rainscreen façade system when used with other rainscreen buildout components such as rigid air barriers and thermal breaks, which is becoming more prevalent in design given its robustness over time. In this way, both appearance and function (weather resistance, thermal performance) can work together as part of the overall design.
Design philosophy
We’re all for stick-built products rather than panels to allow for the design flexibility that comes with modular design territory.
