Project overview
The North Bellarine Aquatic Centre (NBAC) is an ambitious project aimed at enhancing the health and wellbeing of the Drysdale community in Victoria. Stage one, which includes a heated outdoor 50-metre pool has been successfully completed and preparations for stage two have begun. This will feature an indoor aquatic centre, expanding the facility's offerings for local residents.
Redefining community engagement
NBAC was developed in direct response to the lack of accessible aquatic facilities in the Drysdale region. This state-of-the-art centre aims to provide a modern, inclusive space for health, fitness, and recreation, catering to the diverse needs of the community.
By prioritising accessibility and inclusivity, the NBAC not only addresses local gaps in aquatic resources but also serves as a catalyst for social interaction and community bonding, transforming public spaces into vital resources for health and wellbeing.
Innovative design with UniCote LUX
Initially, the architect envisioned using traditional Corten steel, known for its rustic aesthetic. However, concerns arose regarding potential runoff from the rusted iron, which could stain the pool and surrounding areas during rain. To address these concerns while maintaining the desired aesthetic, UniCote LUX in Corten Red was selected as an alternative. This premium pre-painted steel cladding not only replicates the look of naturally rusted steel but also eliminates the risk of bleeding or staining associated with Corten materials.
The Corten Red finish offers a rich, textured appearance that enhances the building's visual appeal while ensuring exceptional durability. The interlocking profile guarantees a seamless application, resulting in a sleek façade that withstands the challenges of the Australian climate.
Promoting wellness and recreation
NBAC is not just a facility; it’s a hub for health and wellness that embodies the principles of modern design and functionality. The use of UniCote LUX is central to this vision, and enhances the aesthetic appeal while ensuring long-lasting durability.
This innovative material allows for a vibrant, welcoming environment that encourages individuals of all ages to participate in aquatic activities. The low maintenance requirements of the material mean that the facility can focus on promoting wellness without the burden of frequent upkeep, ensuring that resources are directed towards community programs and events.
A lasting legacy of health and community spirit
The North Bellarine Aquatic Centre exemplifies what can be achieved when community needs are prioritised in architectural design. With its innovative design and use of bespoke materials, this facility not only meets contemporary standards for performance but also inspires future generations.
As construction moves forward towards the completion of stage two by late 2027, the NBAC is set to become more than just an aquatic facility; it will symbolise community resilience, health promotion, and shared aspirations for a vibrant future in Drysdale.
